Anglicans urged to heal rift over gay bishops

The leader of the international Anglican community, the Archbishop of Canterbury, has told conservatives in the church to refrain from using hostile words about homosexuals.

In a letter to primates of the world's Anglican churches, Dr Rowan Williams warned that such language could lead to suicide or even murder.

His letter also warned of serious consequences if Anglicans do not heal their rift over the ordination of gay bishops.
