An application by the Criminal Assets Bureau to have a receiver appointed to a house owned by the son of convicted drug dealer, John Gilligan, was adjourned in the High Court today.
Darren Gilligan, who owns the property at Weston Green in Lucan, Co Dublin, undertook to repair and maintain the property and to reside there.
In an affidavit, Darren Gilligan rejected any suggestion that he had a desire to destroy or damage the property. He also denied any suggestion that he had stated in the past a desire to destroy the house rather than let it fall into the hands of the State.
The house was flooded in controversial circumstances recently and CAB sought the appointment of a receiver.
It is one of a number of properties owned by the Gilligan family which are at the centre of legal proceedings. The family is resisting seizure proceedings being pursued by the bureau.
The CAB obtained a freezing order some years ago in respect of Gilligan's assets, but under legislation a seven-year period must elapse before frozen assets can be seized under court order.
