Barron death re-designated hit & run

The Garda Commissioner has confirmed that two Donegal men are no longer suspects in the 1996 death of Raphoe cattle dealer Richie Barron, which has been re-designated as a hit and run.

In a letter to cousins Frank McBrearty jnr and Mark  McConnell, Commissioner Noel Conroy confirmed that garda information compiled in 1997 listing the pair as suspects had been withdrawn.

Welcoming the announcement, Mr McBrearty said it was the first time it has been acknowledged that the pair were not suspects.
