Three held over attempted North murder

Three men, including a British soldier, are being questioned in connection with the attempted murder of a 14-year-old boy in east Belfast.

The boy is in a serious condition in hospital after being attacked early on Saturday morning.

He was at Laburnum playing fields in the Castlereagh area when he was stabbed a number of times in the stomach, chest and legs.

Despite his wounds, he managed to get away and was found by police at Picardy Avenue, near the playing fields.

He was then taken to hospital where he underwent emergency surgery.

The PSNI says it does not believe the motive for the attack was sectarian or racist.
