About 20,000 people gathered in the centre of Amsterdam last night to pay homage to the controversial Dutch filmmaker and columnist, Theo van Gogh, who was murdered yesterday.
There has been shock and outrage in the Netherlands at the killing of Mr Van Gogh, who was shot and stabbed to death as he cycled through the city.
He was widely known for his criticism of Islam and recently provoked uproar with a short film about domestic violence in some Muslim marriages.
A 26-year-old man with dual Dutch and Moroccan nationality has been arrested in connection with the crime.
