The overall Journalist of the Year prize in this year's ESB Media Awards has gone to RTÉ's Prime Time Investigates series.
The Prime Time Investigates team also took the award in the television documentary category for a programme exposing the abuse of children by paedophiles using the Internet.
A total of 18 awards were given out today to journalists in the broadcast and print media.
RTÉ's Washington Correspondent, Carole Coleman, took the award in the political/current affairs category for her exclusive interview with US President George Bush.
RTÉ's Nuacht reporter, Ronan Mac an Iomaire, won the Irish Language Media Journalist of the Year Award for his report on a fish processing plant which was built by Udarás na Gaeltachta in Cill Chiaráin in Connemara without proper planning permission.
A special judge's award for outstanding contribution to Irish journalism went to Vincent Doyle, editor of the Irish Independent.
It was announced during today's ceremony that this was the last year the awards will be sponsored by the ESB.
Minister for Communications Noel Dempsey, who presented the awards, stressed the importance of rewarding excellence in journalism and he said he hoped that another sponsor could be found for next year.
