A Dutch filmmaker who recently made a controversial film about violence against women in Muslim societies has been shot and stabbed to death on a street in Amsterdam.
Theo van Gogh, 47, had received death threats after his film was shown on Dutch television several months ago.
A second person was wounded in a shoot-out between police officers and the gunman, who was arrested.
