Audio description provision slammed

The National Council for the Blind Of Ireland has criticised what it calls the meagre effort by the State to make television accessible to visually impaired people.

The council's chief executive, Des Kenny, said he was angry that the Broadcasting Commission of Ireland had only provided for 11 minutes of audio described broadcasting each week in its new draft proposals.

He urged the public to protest against the proposals which he called insulting and derisory.
