The Minister for Justice has been called a 'binge legislator', who was staggering from one crisis to the next.
The charge was made by John Gormley of the Green Party, after it emerged that new legislation was needed to ensure that alcohol free discos could be held in licensed premises.
Labour leader Pat Rabbitte pointed out that Minister Michael McDowell had said publicly that no such legislation was needed, and that this was the 'latest gaffe by the Taoiseach's most error prone Minister'.
The Taoiseach said the Minister had taken a reasonable view of the legislation, but the Director of Public Prosecutions had now given his opinion, and the legislation must be corrected.
