A 27-year-old man has appeared in court charged with assault after a number of people were attacked in the early hours of this morning in Dublin's Temple Bar.
Gerald Flynn from Cliginn Road in Ballyfermot was charged under Section Three of the Non-Fatal Offences Against The Person Act. He was remanded in custody with consent to bail.
A second man is still being questioned.
Four people were taken to hospital but gardaí say CCTV footage shows more people were attacked and they are appealing for those victims and other witnesses to come forward.
One of the victims, a man in his 50s, is still in a critical condition, while a 23-year-old New Zealand man had his nose broken when he shielded the first victim from the kicks with his body.
The first victim is of African origin and gardaí are investigating whether there was a racist motive behind the attack.
