The Catholic hierarchy has said suicide is Europe's biggest killer of young people after road accidents and has urged those contemplating taking their own lives to reconsider.
In a letter to be sent to all households to mark World Day For Life, the country's 33 Catholic bishops trace the relatively recent increase in suicide to a weakening of faith that accompanied the country's economic growth.
