Agency says young people prone to sexual risk

Crisis Pregnancy Agency - New report

The Crisis Pregnancy Agency says that sexually active young people have a strong tendency for sexual risk-taking and poor levels of fertility knowledge.

The State agency says these are big risk factors contributing to the scale and seriousness of crisis pregnancy in Ireland.

Two reports published on contraception, sexual attitudes and unplanned pregnancy show that most young people aged between 18 to 25 are sexually active.

Most people have had their first sexual experience by the age of 18.

However, 14% of men and 9% of women have never obtained contraceptives or advice at anytime.

The survey found that 92% said that abortion should be a choice in crisis pregnancy.

The agency is to mount a major campaign to challenge what it says is worrying behaviour.
