Talks on war crimes tribunal funding

Representatives of 80 countries met today in The Hague to discuss funding for the world's first permanent war crimes tribunal.

The countries, among 94 which have ratified the treaty founding the International Criminal Court, are proposing that it should have a budget next year of about $83m.

Human rights organisations say the figure is not enough to adequately finance the court's first investigations in Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
