A bomb exploded in a park in Santiago de Compostella in northwest Spain today without causing any casualties and very little damage.
Police had been able to evacuate the area before the small device went off around noon after an anonymous call warning of two explosions, one in the town itself and the other in La Coruna, the main city in Galicia.
An interior ministry source said bomb disposal experts were still trying to locate the bomb which was set to go off near the archeological museum in La Coruna.
Police said the timer might have malfunctioned, which would explain why there was no explosion.
Responsibility was claimed in the name of the Basque separatist
organisation ETA, which has been targeting tourist areas since 1979 as part of its campaign for an independent homeland in northern Spain.
