Ongoing row over salmon drift-netting

The minister responsible for salmon fisheries has urged both sides in the ongoing controversy over drift-netting to work together to resolve their differences.

Minister of State at the Department of the Marine, John Browne, said the future of salmon fisheries would be better resolved by more co-operation.

From next Wednesday, anglers will be allowed to catch only one salmon a day.

The Labour Party has called on the Government to buy out salmon licences to end drift-netting.

However, Minister Browne said the Government had no such plans.
