Search for missing tourist to resume tomorrow

Divers looking for a Swiss tourist, thought to be in his early 70s, who is missing on Lough Ree on the River Shannon have called off their search for the night.

The search will resume tomorrow morning.

The body of the man's wife was recovered from the lough, near Lecarrow in Co Roscommon, at 5pm yesterday afternoon after an apparent boating accident.

The couple left Athlone on a cruiser on Sunday heading north towards Carrick-on-Shannon.

The boat was recovered this afternoon at the island of Inchmore, north of Athlone, with its engine still running.

A small boat which was originally attached to the cruiser has also been recovered.
