Gardaí in Limerick are continuing a murder investigation into the death of 35-year-old Martin O'Donoghue who was fatally injured in a street brawl early this morning.
The acting state pathologist Dr Richard Shepherd has completed a post mortem examination on the body at Limerick Regional Hospital.
The post mortem established that Mr O'Donoghue died as a result of stab wounds.
Two men and two women are being held for questioning in connection with the fatal stabbing at Henry Street and Meyerstone Garda stations in the city.
The incident occurred around midnight last night at a pub on Broad Street, close to the city centre.
A row involving several people spilled out onto the street and a narrow adjoining laneway.
When gardaí arrived at the scene, they found Mr O’Donoghue with serious stab wounds lying on the street.
He was taken to the Midwest Regional Hospital where he died a short time later.
Speaking earlier today, Superintendent Gerry Mahon, who is the head of the garda investigation into the incident, said the gardaí are following a number of lines of inquiry.
Supt Mahon also appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
