Police in London have arrested a 30-year-old British citizen wanted for trial in the US for allegedly soliciting funds and property to support acts of terrorism in Chechnya and Afghanistan.

His arrest came as 12 terrorism suspects arrested on Tuesday remained in police custody for questioning.

One of the 12 was identified by Pakistani intelligence officials as Abu Eisa Al Hindi, described as 'a senior al-Qaeda man'.

Judges agreed yesterday to let the Metropolitan Police anti-terrorist branch keep holding the dozen men without charge until Sunday under the Terrorism Act 2000.

The names of the men, who are aged between 19 and 32, have not been released, but British press reports have suggested a link with an apparent al-Qaeda plot to carry out an attack centred on London's Heathrow Airport.
