The former Assistant Dublin City and County Manager, George Redmond, has produced new evidence in court which he claims renders his conviction for corruption unsafe and unsatisfactory.
Mr Redmond, 80, was jailed for a year last December after being convicted by a jury on two counts of corruption.
Garage owner Brendan Fassnidge claimed on nine occasions that he had withdrawn a £10,000 bribe in cash from the Bank of Ireland in Blanchardstown to bribe Mr Redmond in relation to a right of way at Palmerstown in Dublin.
It was accepted during the trial that no bank records were available in relation to this claim.
However, the manager of the Blanchardstown bank today produced records from 1988 which do not support Mr Fassnidge's claim about such a withdrawal.
The defence claims that this new evidence radically alters the situation and renders Mr Redmond's conviction unsafe.
However, the prosecution told the Court of Criminal Appeal that they must consider the totality of evidence produced during the trial.
The court has reserved its judgement on the issue.
