The garda officer who fired the fatal shot at John Carthy has again appeared at the Barr Tribunal into the Abbeylara siege.
Detective Sergeant Aidan McCabe has been recalled to clarify points of evidence about the two shots he fired.
Asked today why he fired the two shots in quick succession, the sergeant said he had thought that the first may have missed Mr Carthy.
He said his primary concern was the safety of the people ahead of John Carthy and he could not delay further in bringing him down.
