Around €140,000 was in a cash machine that was forcibly removed from the wall of the Bank of Ireland in Rosslare early this morning.
A stolen JCB was used to pull the ATM from the wall and load it onto a trailer before the thieves made off, abandoning the JCB.
The gang made its getaway, with the ATM, on one of five roads out of Rosslare in Co Wexford.
Gardaí say it will prove extremely difficult for the thieves to gain access to the cash inside the machine.
They are appealing to anyone who sees anything suspicious, or has information, to contact them.
