Irish life expectancy has risen over the past three years according to new statistics published today by the Central Statistics Office.
The Life Tables show that males at birth can now expect to live 75.1 years compared with 73 years three years ago.
Females, according to these new figures can expect to live 80.3 years, up from 78.5 years when the statistics were last calculated three years ago.
The CSO data confirms that females live on average five years longer than males in Ireland.
Today's Life Tables also show that in Ireland life expectancy for males has increased by 10% or seven years since 1960. For females the improvement over that period has been 11.7%, or 8.4 years.
