The Competition Authority has begun a High Court action against the Irish League of Credit Unions.
The authority claims the league is restricting competition and abusing its dominant position. The case is due to last over two weeks.
The case arises out of moves from the league to disaffiliate a number of Credit Union members who refused to obtain loan protection and life savings insurance cover from a company controlled by the league.
The Irish League of Credit Unions is opposing the action taken by the Competition Authority and denies its claims.
