A man from Dublin has been found guilty of murder after a fight at a telephone box in Dublin in 1999.

A jury of nine men and three women deliberated for four hours before returning a unanimous verdict on Gerard Dunne, otherwise known as Gerald, of Rafters Avenue in Drimnagh.

The 29-year-old was convicted of killing Liam Thompson, 20, of Woodlawn Park Grove in Firhouse at Dolphin's Road in Dublin.

During the eight-day trial, the court heard that a row between the accused and four men over the use of a public telephone kiosk escalated into a fight, after which Mr Thompson was fatally stabbed with a steak knife.
