A former nurse at Naas General Hospital has appeared in court accused of poisoning two patients, one of whom later died.

Noreen Mulholland, 33, of Ruanbeg Close in Kildare replied not guilty when charged this morning at Naas District Court.

She faces four charges under the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act.

Ms Mulholland is accused of administering a substance which would interfere with bodily function to a 77-year-old man who later died, and another male patient, who survived.

She is also accused of causing both men serious harm.

The court heard Ms Mulholland is now living in Portadown, Co Armagh, and is no longer working.

She was remanded on conditional bail to appear again on 14 July.
