The Minister for Justice, Michael McDowell, has said there is no question of the killers of Garda Jerry McCabe being released as an inducement or appetiser for anybody to change their political stance.
Speaking at the launch of the Progressive Democrats' local election candidates for Limerick City and County, he said the government had made it clear it would not consider their release while paramilitarism continued.
