EC agrees deal on passenger details

The European Commission has approved a deal which will allow airlines to transfer private passenger details to the American authorities.

Under the agreement, European airlines will provide information, including credit card numbers, to the Department of Homeland Security.

The deal has been rejected by the European Parliament, which has since referred the matter to the European Court of Justice.

But the commission has rejected privacy concerns, saying details such as meal orders, which could reveal a passenger's religion, race or health, will not be transferred or will be deleted by the US authorities.
