CAB seeks repayment from Limerick gang leader

The Criminal Assets Bureau has served the leader of one of the feuding gangs in Limerick with a tax bill and a social welfare repayment demand for half a million euro.

Brian Collopy, 31, who has convictions for larceny, car theft and drugs offences was presented with a bill for tax on the proceeds of crime for €475,000 at his home in Fedamore, Co Limerick.

The bureau also ordered he repay social welfare another €60,000 which he had claimed from benefits and unemployment assistance.

The tax bill is made up of €250,000 for unpaid taxes for the past six years and €225,000 in interest and penalties.
