The dissident republican Bobby Tohill, whose alleged kidnapping in February was blamed on the IRA by the Independent Monitoring Commission in its recent report, has appeared in court in Belfast.
Mr Tohill, 46, from Bombay Street in West Belfast, was remanded in custody until the end of the month on three charges, including threatening to kill a man last March.
Before the proceedings ended at Belfast Magistrates' Court, Mr Tohill left the dock to be escorted to the cells, claiming the charges were a set-up and a political frame-up.
A PSNI Detective Sergeant told the court that when the charges were put to him on Saturday, Mr Tohill had made no reply to the charge of threatening to kill and said 'No' to the other two charges.
