Fine Gael MEP Avril Doyle has apologised to Dublin District Court following her failure to appear there today.

A bench warrant was issued for the arrest of Ms Doyle when she was not in court to answer three alleged driving offences.

Ms Doyle had instructed solicitors to represent her in court but due to a diary error none turned up.

The firm of solicitors involved, Coonan Cawley, has accepted full responsibility for the error.

Ms Doyle of Kitestown, Co Wexford, was facing charges of careless driving, driving without reasonable consideration and dangerous driving.

The offences are alleged to have occurred on the M50 at Santry on 26 March, 2002.
