Man given life sentence for Lindh murder

A Swedish court has sentenced the man who confessed to killing Foreign Minister Anna Lindh last September to life in prison.

Mijailo Mijailovic, 25, admitted to the knife attack on Ms Lindh, who had been tipped as the next Prime Minister, in a Stockholm department store, but pleaded insanity.

His lawyer has three weeks to appeal against the sentence.

The killing came during a keenly contested referendum campaign on whether Sweden should adopt the euro.
