Four men are due in court in the morning in connection with an alleged IRA attempt to kidnap dissident republican Bobby Tohill near the centre of Belfast on Friday night.
The men, all from Belfast, are to be charged at Laganside Magistrates Court with causing grievous bodily harm, unlawful imprisonment, the possession of articles that could be of use to terrorists and membership of a proscribed organisation.
In another development, police tonight detained a woman in connection with their inquiries into the affair.
Meanwhile, two other men held over the weekend in relation to theinvestigation were tonight released.
Sinn Féin's Martin McGuinness has said he doesn't believe that republicans were involved in Friday night's abduction.
However, he said if they were involved the that would be a breach of the Good Friday Agreement and commitments that were made.
Speaking on RTE's This Week Programme, he said it was too early to prejudge claims by police in the North that the provisional IRA were involved.
However, Mr McGuinness said that Sinn Féin were totally opposed to violence and he said that no organisation - including the IRA - should be involved in anything that undermines the peace process.
