A substantial quantity of commercial explosives and detonators has been found in a van at an estate in the Dooradoyle area of Limerick city.
One man has been arrested and has been brought to Ennis Garda Station.
The find comes as part of an ongoing operation by gardaí in Limerick and Clare into the activities of dissident republicans, in particular the Continuity IRA.
Further finds were made in a follow-up search of a house in Glencairn Drive.
The area has been sealed off and the army bomb disposal team, along with a garda technical team and detectives from the Emergency Response Unit have been called in as part of a major investigation.
