Government Press Secretary Mandy Johnston has lost her libel action against The Star newspaper.
The jury deliberated for an hour and 20 minutes. Ms Johnston faces a costs bil of up to €200,000.
She claimed her good name and reputation were seriously damaged as a result of an article that compared her to participants in the Profumo scandal. The Star newspaper denied the claim.
Mandy Johnston said she was very relieved that the ordeal was over. She accepted the jury's decision and said she just wanted to get back to work.
The editor of The Star, Gerard Colleran, said he was delighted with the verdict and that it had never been the newspaper's intention to defame Ms Johnston.
