A new survey published in The Sunday Times says that Dublin's southside secondary schools perform better than their northside rivals.
The research shows a sharp disparity in the performance of schools on both sides of the capital.
Only two of the 76 northside schools feature in the top 50 of a league table of schools from around the country.
That compares with nine entries from south Dublin, including the number one and two positions.
The survey also showed that students attending a school in Cork stand the best statistical chance of going on to univeristy.
