The Labour Party has claimed it can 'embarrass' the Government into reversing cuts in social welfare schemes announced in the Book of Estimates.
Party leader Pat Rabbitte said there was no moral or political justification for the cuts, which are aimed at saving €58m.
Meanwhile, it has emerged that up to 40 members of the Fianna Fáil parliamentary party have signed a motion calling for the restoration of places on Community Employment (CE) schemes.
The motion is to be discussed by the party next week, but a spokesman for the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment said that the Government had decided to retain 25,000 places on the scheme next year, the same number as in the current year.
