Gardaí deport 25 Eastern Europeans

RTÉ has learned that 25 East European nationals have been deported in a joint initiative with the British immigration authorities.

The Garda Press Office has confirmed that the 25, from Moldova and Romania, are to be returned to their countries from Ireland.

However, the flight will also stop at Stansted airport in London to pick up more Moldovans and Romanians being deported from Britain.

It is believed around ten deportees will join the flight in London.

The Garda Press Office said the operation would be more efficient by sharing the cost.

It is understood gardaí from the National Immigration Bureau are accompanying the foreign nationals, though the Press Office was unable to confirm how many officers are on board the flight.

One source said the plane's ultimate destination is an army airbase near Bucharest.
