Ovation for mother of Guerin at awards

The mother of the murdered journalist, Veronica Guerin, was given a standing ovation after a speech last night at the inaugural Irish Film and Television Awards.

Bernie Guerin accepted the public vote award for the film about her daughter at the ceremony in Dublin.

The award by an international jury for Best Irish Film went to 'Intermission', and its director, John Crowley, was voted Best Director.

RTÉ's Bachelor's Walk was awarded Best TV Drama.

And Miriam O'Callaghan was voted for by the public as Best TV Personality.

The Director Neil Jordan was honoured with a lifetime achievement award.
