A court in Moscow has ordered Mikhail Khodorkovsky, head of the Russian oil company Yukos, to be kept in prison after he was charged with offences including defrauding the state of almost €1bn.
Mikhail Khodorkovsky was arrested at a Siberian airport by agents of the Russian security police.
Mr Khodorkovsky, who is believed to be Russia's richest man, has been charged with several offences, including tax evasion and fraud.
