Two arrested after Dublin shooting

Gardaí have arrested two men following a shooting incident this afternoon in the Dundrum area of Dublin.

The incident occurred at 12.40pm at Lower Kilmacud Road when two men confronted a businessman as he got into his car. The 54-year-old was about to take a cash lodgement to a bank.

Both raiders were armed and a shot was fired at the businessman, hitting him in the leg. They then took the bag of cash and left the scene in a red VW Polo car.

A garda patrol car which happened to be passing and witnessed the incident subsequently gave chase. The gardaí pursued the car until it drove into a cul de sac in Stillorgan.

The robbers then fired at the gardaí before fleeing. The gardaí continued the pursuit on foot and managed to arrest two men nearby. Two firearms and a quantity of cash were recovered.

The arrested men were taken to Blackrock Garda Station where they are being detained under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.

The man who was shot was taken to St Vincent's Hospital where his condition is described as stable.
