38 apply for radio licences: BCI

The Broadcasting Commission of Ireland says 38 groups and individuals have expressed an interest in new radio licences in Dublin City and County.

The largest interest was in a service for the Dublin City and County area, with 32 submissions.

Among the applicants are existing operators such as FM104, Lite FM and Today FM.

A report on all of the submissions will be presented to the BCI board in the coming months, after which they will be available for public inspection.

BCI chief executive Michael O'Keeffe described the response as 'phenomenal'.
