Swedish politician stabbed in shop

The Swedish Prime Minister Goeran Persson has ordered the suspension of the 'yes' campaign in the run-up to Sweden's euro referendum on Sunday after the Foreign Minister Anna Lindh was seriously injured in a knife attack.

The minister, who is one of most outspoken campaigners in favour of joining the euro, suffered wounds to her chest, stomach and arms when she was stabbed by an unidentified man while she was shopping at a department store in central Stockholm.

She is being treated in hospital where her injuries are said to be not life threatening.

Police said her attacker was still at large.
