Pope and Bono nominated for Nobel

The Nobel Foundation has announced that its prestigious Peace Prize is to be awarded on 10 October.

The Pope and U2 singer Bono are on the list of candidates for this year's prize.

Also on the list are French President, Jacques Chirac, and Cuban dissident, Oswalda Paya.

The former Governor of the US state of Illinois, George Ryan, is also believed to have been nominated.

Mr Ryan granted clemency to all 167 inmates on the state's death row.
