Limerick venue for Keane murder trial

A judge has ruled that five men charged with the murder of crime boss Kieran Keane must stand trial in Limerick.

Mr Justice Paul Carney made the order at the Central Criminal Court in Limerick as he set a date of 21 October for the start of the murder trial.

Before the court were James McCarthy, David Stanners, Christopher 'Smokey' Costelloe, Anthony 'Noddy' McCarthy and Dessie Dundon.

All five men are from Limerick.

Mr Justice Carney refused bail to four of the five accused who made applications at today's sitting.

He also refuse defence applications for separate trials.
