Gynaecologist Dr Michael Neary and Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda have lost a Supreme Court appeal.
The appeal was against an award made to a woman whose womb was removed soon after the birth of her first and only child.
Dr Neary and the hospital had appealed against the award of €273,223 damages to Alison Gough of Markethouse Lane, Ardee in Co Louth.
The only change to the award made by the Supreme Court was to reduce the damages made into the future by €50,000 which brings the total award to Mrs Gough to €223,223.
