UUP MPs' court case on suspension adjourned

A case by three Ulster Unionist MPs claiming their suspensions are illegal has been adjourned until tomorrow.

The three are seeking injunctions against disciplinary action taken by their party.

They resigned the UUP party whip at Westminster and were subsequently suspended.

The three, Jeffrey Donaldson, David Burnside and Martin Smyth, have issued a writ against Unionist Party officers including Sir Reg Empey and Lord Maginnis, but not party leader David Trimble.

The writ seeks injunctions restraining the officers from interfering with the three in the exercise of their duties as party members and from allowing the disciplinary hearing planned for 17 July next to go ahead.

The composition of the proposed disciplinary committee is also challenged.
