Lapdancing club manager on tax charges

A 55-year-old woman, who was arrested yesterday as part of an ongoing investigation into the lapdancing industry, has appeared at Dublin District Court charged with tax offences.

Mary Cullen was charged with failure to make tax returns for the year 2000 and 2001.

Detective Sergeant Tom Matthews asked that bail be denied. He said Ms Cullen had recently set up a bank account in Spain and was in the advanced stages of setting up a business there.

Ms Cullen confirmed that she had a bank account in Spain, but denied that she would not appear in court again. She was remanded on bail to appear again next week.

Ms Cullen was arrested at an apartment in Grace Park Hall, on Grace Park Road, in Dublin yesterday morning. It is understood she was found with €750,000 and Gardaí believed she was preparing to leave the country.

She was arrested as part of Operation Quest, the Garda investigation into suspected links between lapdancing and criminal activity.
