Two Limerick cousins accused of possession of a Kalashnikov rifle and several rounds of ammunition in August of last year were acting on the directions of a leading member of one of the feuding factions in the city, Limerick Circuit Court heard today.
Both Roy Woodland, of Canon Breen Park in Thomondgate, and Ross Cantillon, of St Ita's street in St Mary's Park, pleaded quilty to the charges on 23 August last year.
They are to be sentenced on Thursday next.
That night the two accused were in a stolen car which drove up to Cliona Park in the Moyross estate in Limerick.
Up to 11 shots were fired from a Kalashnikov rifle at the home of 'Fat John McCarthy' who, it is claimed, is involved in a rival feuding family.
Both Woodland and Cantillon were arrested the following day and made statements to Gardaí.
Cantillon admitted he was driving the car, and Woodland admitting he fired the shots.
He said he had rented the gun for €400 euro, but only discharged the shots to frighten those at the house, not to cause them injury.
Both men claimed they had been shot and stabbed by members of the McCarthy family in feud provoked incidents in the past.
Roy Woodland had to have his leg amputated as a result of being shot in the knee in a feud attack.
