Two policemen were killed and a third badly injured in a bomb attack in northern Spain today.

The Spanish authorities have blamed the attack on the Basque separatist group ETA.

The explosion happened in the town square of Sanguesa, 30 miles southeast of Pamplona in an area bordering the Basque country.

The Spanish Prime Minister, Jose Maria Aznar, has cancelled his trip to St Petersburg where he was to take part in tricentenary celebrations with other world leaders.
