A Garda Supt has told the Barr Tribunal he completely and utterly refutes an allegation made by John Carthy's cousin in relation to garda handling of the Abbeylara siege.
The Tribunal is investigating the gardaí's fatal shooting of 27-year-old John Carthy outside his home at Abbeylara, County Longford, in April 2000.
Supt Martin Maguire was the assistant to the scene commander at Abbeylara.
Thomas Walsh, Mr Carthy's cousin, said Supt Maguire told him he was refusing to give Mr Carthy cigarettes during the siege because he was not co-operating with gardaí and would not be getting his way anymore.
Mr Walsh had made the allegation in a statement to the Oireachtas inquiry into John Carthy's death.
During this morning's Tribunal proceedings, Supt Maguire said he never made such remarks to Thomas Walsh and took exception to the comments.
